The ChatGPT mobile app has just had its most profitable month, with a 2 million increase in subscribers.

The attractive features of the GPT-4o AI model have led the ChatGPT mobile app to break its monthly revenue record.

The unveiling of the GPT-4o AI model in May (April and May 2024) has led to a significant revenue boost for ChatGPT. The mobile version of the ChatGPT app has now experienced its most profitable month.

According to data from Appfigures, a company specializing in app analytics, the ChatGPT mobile app earned a net profit of $28 million from the App Store and Google Play in July (June and July 2024).

This net profit reflects the amount remaining after deducting in-app purchase fees charged by Apple and Google. OpenAI reports that 83% of the app’s revenue in July came from the App Store, marking a 20% increase compared to June (May and June 2024).

Taking into account app store fees, the gross profit for the ChatGPT mobile app was $28.9 million in May, $34 million in June, and $39.9 million in July.

The GPT-4o model has introduced appealing features to ChatGPT, including text, voice, and video management capabilities. This model has also increased the response speed of the chatbot. Additionally, users can interrupt the chatbot’s voice responses, making interactions with the AI feel more natural.

Appfigures notes that the demand for access to the GPT-4o model in May led to a 40% increase in ChatGPT’s app revenue. Although the revenue growth for OpenAI’s chatbot has slowed slightly since then, overall revenue continues to grow steadily.

Based on the revenue of the ChatGPT app in July, Appfigures estimates that the chatbot likely attracted around 2 million new paying subscribers, setting another record for its mobile application.

Appfigures anticipates that with the addition of the advanced voice mode in ChatGPT, which provides near-instantaneous and realistic interactions, the mobile app’s growth will continue in the coming months.
