The ChatGPT chatbot took a jab at Microsoft’s Windows operating system and its Copilot assistant, mocking them in a recent interaction.
A new trend is emerging on Instagram where ChatGPT humorously critiques users based on their profile pictures and content. Riding the wave of this trend, the chatbot has produced some controversial remarks about Microsoft and its AI assistant, Copilot.
This Instagram trend has captivated many, but there are concerns among some users that it might be a ploy to feed AI-powered image generation tools with data.
According to a review by Windows Central, ChatGPT had some harsh words for Microsoft’s Copilot, describing it as “an inept office intern who insists on helping but mostly just tidies up your desktop and loses important files. Copilot feels more like an artificial nuisance than an AI assistant.” When commenting on Microsoft’s updates to Copilot, the chatbot quipped, “It seems like Microsoft thinks your computer is a Netflix show that needs constant cliffhangers, except instead of being entertained, you’re worried whether your computer will actually turn on when you need it. So, yes, if Copilot is the assistant of the future, maybe it’s time to go back to pen and paper.”
Microsoft has previously stated that AI is not designed to replace professionals but should be viewed as a helpful assistant. The company from Redmond also emphasized that the Copilot chatbot sometimes makes mistakes, as evidenced by its history of providing inaccurate information, such as incorrect details about elections. ChatGPT acknowledged Microsoft’s long history but likened the tech giant to a veteran employee who has stayed too long at the company and keeps doing things the old-fashioned way, simply because “that’s how we’ve always done it.”

In further criticism of Microsoft’s achievements, ChatGPT said, “They have a remarkable talent for taking promising technologies and overcomplicating them into something that’s a convoluted mess.”
Investors have expressed concerns about Microsoft’s hefty spending on AI projects. Key shareholders have noted that they struggle to identify a clear and profitable path in the company’s AI vision.
ChatGPT added, “Just when you start to get used to the current version of Windows, they force a new version on you, loaded with a bunch of new bugs, as if the user interface was designed to challenge every life choice you’ve made.”
Microsoft has blocked the TPM 2.0 workaround in its recent update; this workaround allowed users to bypass the hardware validation process to activate Windows 11 on unauthorized devices. Windows 11’s AI features require CoPilot Plus computers with processors equipped with an NPU that has a minimum processing power of 45 TOPS.
Privacy and security concerns are the main obstacles to the advancement and further expansion of AI. Observers and consumers clearly feel the need for regulations to prevent AI from deviating from its proper path.
