The CEO of Instagram mentioned that the reason for this update is that most content on Instagram is uploaded in a vertical format.
Instagram is currently testing a new feature for profiles that changes the display of posts from square to vertical rectangles. Although this change is still in the testing phase, it seems that users aren’t very pleased with it and prefer the old square format.
According to The Verge, some users have already noticed the new Instagram profile update being tested, which changes the post display format. However, it is not yet widely available to all users. Instagram has been testing this new profile feature since 2022, but for unknown reasons, they have refrained from fully implementing it.

Users are not satisfied with Instagram’s potential change
“Adam Mosseri,” the head of Instagram, has confirmed the testing of the new post display format, stating that most of the content shared on the platform is vertical. According to Mosseri, limiting content to square formats is a thing of the past, and this restriction was removed from the platform in 2015. In a similar update, Instagram recently allowed users to add up to 20 photos or videos in a single post.
However, Mosseri acknowledged that changing the post display format on profiles could be frustrating for users who have spent a lot of time organizing their profiles. He mentioned that he hopes to find a way to manage this change effectively.

“Christine Pai,” an Instagram spokesperson, also stated that the new feature is still being tested on a limited basis and that the company is listening to user feedback before officially rolling it out. Based on comments shared on social media, it appears that users have not welcomed this change.
So, if you’re one of those Instagram users who care about the organized display of posts on your profile, you may soon face significant changes that could potentially disrupt your hard work over the years.
