OpenAI’s SearchGPT marks the company’s entry in the search engine market

Imagine ChatGPT, but it fetches you links

AI startup OpenAI became a popular name in 2023 when it launched ChatGPT, the poster child of AI chatbots. Since then, the company has gone on to launch other platforms that leverage AI, including Sora, which converts text to video. The brand’s latest product, though, targets a very different market – search engines.

Called SearchGPT, the new platform will allow users to search for websites and more, offering you tailored results with links based on your needs. Unlike other search engines, results in SearchGPT will be more conversational, in typical ChatGPT fashion. It should also work on all platforms, including smartphones and laptops.

Of course, SearchGPT will have access to real-time information, allowing it to answer queries around say, the Olympics. Users will also be able to ask subsequent follow-up questions/queries for further information.

SearchGPT to take on Google

While currently in early-access, SearchGPT could eventually be taking on some of the popular search engines used today (spelled “Google”), and once publicly accessible, could soon even be a default search engine option on browsers.

As we mentioned above, SearchGPT is currently in early-access and users must join a waitlist to try it out. You can sign up for the same by heading to the SearchGPT website.

SearchGPT will eventually also operate as a part of ChatGPT, allowing you to fortify your regular ChatGPT conversations with links to websites and pages.

“We’re launching to a small group of users and publishers to get feedback. While this prototype is temporary, we plan to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future,” the announcement post said.
