X Officially Lists Texas as Its New Home Base

Elon Musk’s X project has reached a new milestone, with X formally seeking legal recognition of Bastrop, Texas, as its new headquarters. A recent court filing in X’s legal case involving former CNN anchor Don Lemon revealed that the company is requesting to move its head office to Bastrop, which is also home to SpaceX and The Boring Company.

Forbes reports that X recently updated several incorporation documents, indicating the Bastrop address. Musk is also pushing for the legal proceedings in the Lemon lawsuit to be handled in Texas. This move isn’t unexpected, as Musk had previously announced in July that X would be leaving its long-time San Francisco headquarters. Musk cited both safety concerns and his disagreement with California’s laws regarding gender identification among children as reasons for the departure.

Additionally, with the company’s workforce reduced by 80%, the need for a large office space diminished. Last month, X notified its employees that the San Francisco office would be vacated, with staff being reassigned to locations in San Jose, Palo Alto, and Texas. Now, Texas has been officially confirmed as X’s new headquarters, aligning the company with Musk’s other ventures.

The new X headquarters is now situated in “Hyperloop Plaza,” a shopping center complex owned by Elon Musk. X is also in the process of staffing a new safety center in the area, with most of its employees eventually set to transition to the new location.

This marks the end of an era for the company once known as Twitter, which was long associated with San Francisco and the Silicon Valley tech movement. However, the company is now shifting to align more closely with Musk’s vision. By relocating to Texas, X will also be better integrated with Musk’s other ventures, including xAI, facilitating smoother resource sharing and expertise exchange across his projects.

Externally, the impact may be minimal. X has already undergone a major transformation in its content moderation policies, which has significantly altered the platform’s atmosphere. However, from a development perspective, having Musk’s various entities working more closely together will likely accelerate innovation across his companies, as each team concentrates on different aspects of their respective projects.

This cross-company collaboration will continue within the limits of board approval and external regulatory guidelines. Musk’s practice of sharing hardware across his businesses has already raised some concerns, but consolidating these efforts under a shared vision should lead to more seamless cooperation.

With this relocation, the chapter of Twitter has essentially come to a close, making way for X to fully take over its legacy.
